Assalamu Alaykum Craft Mummies,
How are you doing today? I hope you’re all enjoying these precious moments at home with every member of your family during the pandemic.
I’m touching on a favourite subject of mine (and most Muslim mums here in the UK) and that’s homeschooling!
Why do I personally love it? Because you have the utmost freedom to plan creative lessons and engaging activities that suit your child’s learning abilities.
As much as I have huge respect for our school teachers, having worked in a primary school myself, I noticed how challenging it can be to personally deal with the unique needs of each and every pupil.
On the other hand, with homeschooling, you are able to focus on 1 particular child and really get a true understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
I have been dyslexic all my life but only found out when I was in my 1st year of university. Could you believe that? I lived a life struggling with my studies, suffering immense stress during my GCSE’s and wondering why I just didn’t ‘get’ it. Can anyone else relate? Perhaps you’ve experienced this, or maybe your child is currently going through this now. How did you overcome it? Would love to hear your experiences.
When I finally discovered I was dyslexic, I felt a sense of relief and soon gained the support of a 1:1 tutor. My grade plummeted from a 2.2 to a 1st! The reason why I am so enthusiastic towards homeschooling is exactly because of this - 1:1 support enabled me to thrive. Specialist support can have a huge impact on our learning, our understanding and even our well-being. You feel as if your “uniqueness” is being taken care of.
With homeschooling, you are able to support your child by understanding their unique learning abilities through constant interaction and daily dealings. You are giving your undivided attention to them and making them feel loved and cared for, something every child secretly craves.
You have the ability to workout their challenges and to investigate strategies that work well for them through experimentation. Thanks to platforms like Pinterest, there’s an array of generic and Muslim homeschooling resources, lesson plans & activities that we can gain direct access to - thankfully homeschooling is not as difficult anymore!
As Muslims, we also have the additional worry of teaching in a way that is aligned with our Islamic beliefs. We want to be sure we aren’t compromising Islam in anyway and homeschooling provides us with the flexibility to teach topics of our choice under any given subject.
I specialised in working with SEN children in EYFS and KS1 and struggled to find resources that didn’t have faces for example. Despite the barrier, I had to think creatively and decided to create my own resources.
Just like me, many Muslim homeschoolers also make their own resources. They start to think creatively and design and create homeschooling worksheets and activities to suit their faith AND their child’s needs. This may be a challenge for some of us because, let’s face it, not all of us are naturally inclined to creating.
We’re showing you a few Muslim resource pages to help you get your foot in the door and give you a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Without further or do, here’s our 8 Muslim homeschooling resource pages for Muslim parents:

I hope this becomes a starting point in your search for Muslim-friendly resources for your child. There are lots of homeschooling resources available online but it merely is a case of patience and dedication in your search.
The Muslim Craft Club will also be helping this market by providing our own Phonics & fine motor skill activities and worksheets to suit our little Muslim learners. Our creative crafty background will ensure our resources are fun, colourful and inspiring.
